Letter: Oberstein is man of action focused on future

To the editor:

Having just attended the town hall meeting hosted by Jim Oberstein, candidate for mayor of the city of Shawano, we want to say vote for Jim Oberstein. Shawano needs this strong, friendly leader.

Jim is a recipient of his BAS and MBA degrees in business administration. His diversified skills were proven factors to his success in corporate management, eight-year member — two years as president — of the Menasha School Board and chairperson for United Way.

He stresses a team-effort approach to develop new strategies, support of local businesses and acquiring new business to Shawano. Also, he seeks assistance by utilizing educational involvement of our schools, College of Menominee Nation, university and university Extension for achieving results.

Jim presented his outline for “Invest in the Future of Shawano”:

1. Develop an “Economic Summit” to bring business owners together to collectively expand local business and encourage new industry to develop in Shawano. Also, to continue the apprenticeship program in our area high schools.

2. Consult with regional marketing and development organizations.

3. Identify skills that are needed by industry and partnering with the Job Center and Vision 2017 project to provide the training required for these opportunities and new business development.

4. Work with the BID board and the RDA board to address new store needs and provide assistance for a facelift for present stores. To work with owners of vacant buildings to make improvements to encourage new business opportunities.

5. Continue efforts to best utilize the vacant Shawano hospital site.

6. Continue to focus Shawano as a major health care hub with the new ThedaCare hospital and clinic, New Tower Clock Eye Clinic, Fox Valley Hematology/Oncology and the new First Impression Dental Clinic.

We have the opportunity to elect a working man of action with the focus on the future. Vote Jim Oberstein for mayor!
