Menominee Indian, Bonduel combine for 3 regional champions
Menominee Indian had two individual champions and Bonduel had one Saturday at the WIAA Division 3 regional in Coleman.
For the Eagles, Antonio Mahkimetas (160 pounds) pinned Gillett/Suring’s Trevor Kohls in the semifinal and earned a 13-8 decision over Shiocton’s Billy Reif for the title. Mahkimetas is 33-8 in his senior season.
Teammate Kyle Komanekin, a 220-pounder, also moved to 33-8 on the year as he put together back-to-back, second-period victories en route to his regional title.
Bonduel was paced by 120-pound wrestler Jordan Boldt (35-5), who pinned both of his opponents — Shiocton’s Levi Spencer in 1 minute and 19 seconds and Coleman’s Sam Kuchta, in the title match, in 2:50.
Bonduel junior Jacob Banker lost an overtime decision in the championship to Coleman’s Jordan Blanchard, but Banker finished in second to qualify for the sectional because of a 4-1 decision he had earlier in the day over Shiocton’s Trevor Young.
At 152 pounds, Tristan Tomashek lost the championship bout with Coleman’s John Bieber but won the wrestleback by rule over Oconto’s Peyton Boucher. Tomashek (15-9) defeated Boucher by major decision in the semifinals. Like Banker, he also will wrestle Saturday at the sectional in Shawano.
In addition to Mahkimetas and Komanekin, Menominee Indian will be represented in Shawano by Darius Wayka (182 pounds), Leander Moon (195 pounds) and Alenex Warrington (285 pounds).
