Letter: GOP plan helps wealthy, hurts older people

To the editor:

The GOP health plan isn’t so much of a new health care plan as it is a tax cut for the wealthy.

It will repeal the Medicare taxes that help pay for the ACA to give $275 billion in tax cuts to the rich.

Insurance companies get a $400 million tax cut.

The older you are, the more you will pay in premiums, but with no penalty, many young healthy people may skip buying insurance. Also, insurance companies can charge older adults five times more than younger people.

They want to give us the freedom to choose, but if the choice is paying for health insurance or housing and food, that’s not freedom.
