Gresham earns 2 seed in D5 softball regional

The Gresham softball team secured the best seed in the area with its second seed in a WIAA Division 5 regional, which begins play on Tuesday.

The Wildcats (11-6, 11-6 Central Wisconsin Conference-10) earned a bye and then will face the winner of seventh-seeded Marion (7-12, 7-10 CWC-10) vs. 10th ranked Pembine/Goodman (0-13, 0-10 Northern Lakes).

Shawano (15-6, 10-4 Bay Conference), which earned the fourth seed in its region, will take on fifth-seeded Marinette (9-8, 7-8 North Eastern Conference) Wednesday. With a victory, the Hawks would likely face Seymour, which Shawano has beaten twice on the season.

Clintonville (2-16, 0-16 NEC), the region’s eighth seed, has a home game Tuesday against Notre Dame (1-18, 1-12 Fox River Classic), with the winner advancing to play top-seeded Seymour on Wednesday.

In Division 3, Bonduel (7-8, 5-5 Central Wisconsin Conference-8) will travel to Peshtigo in a 4-vs.-5 game Wednesday.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood (0-16, 0-14 CWC-8) has the ninth seed in the same region and travels to Gillett/Suring (6-12, 3-10 Marinette & Oconto Conference) Tuesday. The winner will play top-seeded Oconto on Wednesday.

Menominee Indian (0-17, 0-15 CWC-10) took the 10th seed in its regional and travels to Laona/Wabeno (10-7, 8-0 Northern Lakes), the seventh seed, for an opening round game Tuesday.

No. 5 Bowler (10-5, 10-5 CWC-10) earned a meeting with fourth-seeded Niagara (6-7, 5-5 M&O) Wednesday, and ninth-seeded Tigerton (2-18, 2-15 CWC-10) will travel to eighth-seeded Florence (2-8, 2-6 Northern Lakes) for an opening-round game Tuesday.
