Marvin F. Hesse

Marvin F. Hesse, 92, of Ripon, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 11, 2017, at Fountain View Care Center in Ripon.

Marvin was born on Jan. 19, 1925, in Shawano, a son of the late Louis and Amanda (Koehler) Hesse. He graduated from Shawano High School in 1943 and three days later was drafted into the armed forces. Marvin served his country from 1943-1946 in the U.S. Army Air Corps. He was stationed in New Guinea.

Following the war, Marvin lived in Victoria, Texas, working as a bookkeeper while enjoying the warmth he had grown accustomed to in the Pacific. He adopted many of the Texas customs: cowboy boots, western shirts, blue jeans, the accent, phrases and, most of all, the southern charm. He frequently came back to visit his family, and all the Wisconsin relatives thoroughly enjoyed his visits.

In his later years, Marvin returned to Wisconsin and resided in Shawano. He spent the last 15 years in Ripon at Russell Manor apartments and made many good friends there. He enjoyed crafting, making floral arrangements, playing the organ, decorating for the holidays (especially Christmas) and loved to dance (which incidentally kept him from becoming a minister!).

Marvin is survived by his sister, Ruth Koehler, of Springfield, Illinois; his sister-in-law, Shirley Hesse, of Milwaukee; his good friend, Gene; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces, and great-great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Reuben (Leona) Hesse, Lloyd (Mildred) Hesse, Oscar (Margaret) Hesse, Louis (Eileen) Hesse and Bobbie Hesse; his infant brothers, Carl and William Hesse; his twin sister, Marion (Ervin) Pludeman; and his brother-in-law, Gil Koehler.

Per his wishes, a memorial service for Marvin F. Hesse will be held on Monday, July 10, 2017, at 1 p.m. at Mickelson Funeral Service in Shawano. Inurnment will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery in Shawano. Full military honors will be conducted by Shawano AMVETS Post 10. Relatives and friends may call from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mickelson Funeral & Cremation Service of Shawano is assisting the family with arrangements.
