Busy summer continues at the Mielke

Summer at the Mielke Arts Center is a constant series of projects, whether it is meetings, construction of a stage set, rehearsal of the summer musical, layout of the grounds for the art fair and folk music festival, or getting maintenance work done so all the upcoming events go smoothly.

We are lucky to have a core of dedicated volunteers to implement all this, but we could use more help — all the time! Whether it’s ushering, helping with advertising or moving stage flats, we need you. If you’d like to be a part of the Mielke experience, please call me at 715-823-6237 or Mary Madsen at 715-787-4130.

“South Pacific,” Rodgers & Hammerstein’s classic musical, is on the Mielke stage through July 23. Tickets are still only $12 for adults and $7 for youth. Call 715-526-2525 to reserve your tickets. Purchase online at shawanoarts.com. Ticket outlets are the Shawano Country Chamber of Commerce in Shawano and B&H Fashions in Clintonville.

Don’t forget the one day Arts & Crafts Fair on July 30, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., in the Mielke Park. It features many vendors, a variety of fine art and crafts, and fun food to nibble on while you stroll the grounds. Walking tacos, fruit cups and pasta salad will be offered, plus heartier fare like hamburgers and brats, grilled right by the food wagon. Admission is always a freewill offering, with a suggested $2 for our efforts. All profit is put right back into the fund that supports this event.

The Folk Music Festival, from Aug. 11-13, promises to be another happy musical event at the Mielke, with many professional, well-known folk artists on hand to entertain you. For ticket information, go online to www.shawanofestival.org or stop at the Shawano Country Chamber of Commerce. You can also call Linda at 920-822-5042.

We are happy to announce that our Mielke Children’s Theatre Workshop is filled again this year. We look forward to welcoming back some returnees as well as meeting new students. The workshop runs from 6-8:30 p.m. Aug. 14-18, with the kids’ production of “Aladdin” on Aug. 19 at 2 p.m. What a fun week that will be!
