HUB Investments LLC has announced the acquisition of the cottage and dock rentals of Port Townsend Resort, located on the Townsend Flowage in Townsend, from Jim and Karla Schuessler.

“We are thrilled to take the reins,” said Juli Hobson, a member of the new ownership group. “We feel the Townsend Flowage is one of the truly superior lakes among all those in the Northwoods, especially considering that it provides such diverse recreational opportunity for guests.

“We look forward to continuing the same great services as Jim and Karla, adding upgrades in accommodations and amenities. It is our hope not only to build lasting relationships with our guests but with the residents of Townsend as well. We want to become an asset to the community, increasing year-round rentals and promoting businesses in the area.”

Other owners include Angela Buchholz, Jeremiah Rolfs and Dale Harris, all of Tigerton.

The cottages at Port Townsend Resort were developed in 1946 by Tony and Anna Bogocus, who also built Hillcrest Lodge. For the past 16 summers, the resort was owned by the Schuesslers, who have added many improvements.

“Passing the torch is very bittersweet since over the years we have made many friendships through the resort,” Karla Schuessler said. “Some folks have been with us since 2003, and we have developed so many new relationships. It has been a pleasure to keep track of families as they advance through life. We have even developed friendships with Tony and Anna’s family, which we value.”

Over the years the Schuesslers eliminated old and dilapidated cottages and replaced them with modern cottage homes.

“We are grateful to the county, especially Bill Popp, who we recently lost, and past leaders for the town of Townsend who worked with us to help make a modern resort in the Northwoods,” Schuessler said. “Without their help, this resort would no longer exist.”

Schuessler noted that when they acquired the resort there were three rental cottages on the lake, and the ownership change helps ensure there will be three rental cottages there into the future.

The new owners plan to continue renting docks during the summer season and are now providing pontoon and jet ski rentals.
