Steven L. Ponfil

Steven L. Ponfil, 46, of Angelica, formerly of Neopit, passed away unexpectedly on Friday morning, Sept. 8, 2017, at his home.

Steve was born on June 8, 1971, in Shawano, the only son of Gerald Ponfil and Diana (Wescott) Corn. Steve attended tribal schools, graduating from Menominee Indian High School in 1989. Following school he worked for numerous businesses, including Aarowcast, Reinhart Foods and MTE.

On June 28, 2014, he was united in marriage to the former Shelle Kindschuh in Green Bay. Following their marriage the couple lived in Green Bay and Pulaski. Steve was currently employed at Doc’s Harley-Davidson. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Neopit. His hobbies include carpentry, motorcycling, four-wheeling, and snowmobiling. He enjoyed working outside and was a general “Mr. Fixit.” He loved to tease and make people laugh. He was strongly devoted to his wife, Shelle, and his children.

Steve is survived by his wife, Shelle, of Pulaski; his children, Ivy Rose, Jacob and Story Ponfil; his father, Gerald (Lora) Ponfil, of Shawano, and Diana (Donald) Corn, of Keshena; his sisters, Becky (Roland) Smart, of Neopit, Rose (Christopher) Ponfil, of Shawano, and LuAnn (Craig) Richmond, of Keshena; his father-in-law, David Kindschuh, of Fond du Lac; sisters-in-law, Susan (Terry) Mittelstaedt and Andrea (Cody) Brown; numerous aunts and uncles; special nephews, Keenan, Vance, and Evan Richmond, and Douglas, Landon and Ayden Mittelstaedt; and a great-niece, Kendall Richmond.

Steve was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Florence Ponfil, and Earl and Rosene Wescott; his mother-in-law, Julie Kindschuh; and a nephew, Kyle Richmond.

A Funeral Mass for Steven L. Ponfil will be celebrated on Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, at noon at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Neopit. The Rev. Francis Zurbano will be the celebrant. Relatives and friends may call at the Menominee Tribal Community Center in Neopit on Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, after 2 p.m. until the time of Mass on Tuesday. A parish wake service will be held on Monday at 7 p.m. at the Community Center.
