Victor E. Christian

Victor E. “Vic” Christian, 82, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017, at the Birch Hill Care Center in Shawano, following a long-term illness with Alzheimer’s. He now joins his wife, Evie, in the eternal afterlife.

Vic was born in the Richland Center area on Sept. 13, 1935, to Annie and Vern Christian. He was raised on a farm in rural Hilsboro, with his 12 siblings including Erwin, Virgil, Melvin (deceased), Ernest (deceased), Julius, Bob, Frieda, Phyllis, Rose, Bernadine (deceased) and Millie (deceased).

On Aug. 6, 1955, he was joined in marriage to Evelyn Marie Gaethke in Milton, Wisconsin. Victor and Evelyn lived for many years in Wales, Wisconsin, where they raised their six children before moving to Shawano in 2001. Vic enjoyed camping with his family, fishing, picking asparagus, hunting, gardening, watching birds in his bird feeder, and spending time with his family in the backyard. He enjoyed his many pet dogs over the years including, Barney, Snoopy, Lady, and Buster.

Survivors include his six children, Debbie (Jim) Bryant, Vic Jr., Susie (Dennis) Pease, Cindy (David) Swenor, Barb (Jim) Hritz and Diana (Jim) Eubanks; 10 grandchildren: Becky (Dennis) Huss, Amber (Brandon) Swenor, David (Brenda) Swenor, Melissa (Jared) Rein, Pam Pease, Kim (Chip) Vogelsberg, Matt Pease, Angie (Jeff) Sisulak, Cody (Kate) Hritz and Katie (Chad) Hritz; 20 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.

Vic was preceded in death by his wife Evie; his parents Annie and Vern; and several siblings.

A funeral service for Victor E. Christian will be held on Saturday, Nov. 11, 2017, at noon at Mickelson Funeral Service of Shawano. Pastor Mark Baldwin will officiate. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Interment will take place in the Friendship Cemetery.
