Shawano boys take 3rd, girls 7th at Wausau West

Photo by Dave Hanssen Shawano Community High School junior Tori DePerry finished third in the high jump at 4 feet, 10 inches at the Wausau West Warrior Invitational on Thursday.

The Shawano boys track team finished third overall out of nine teams at the Wausau West Warrior Invitational on Friday.

Host Wausau West won the meet, and Edgar finished as runner-up.

Parker Pues, Payden Buck and Atty Wagner all led the Hawks with first-place finishes in their respective events.

Pues clinched the title in both the long jump with a leap of 21 feet, 7 inches, and the 55-meter dash in 6.98 seconds. Pues also finished second in the triple jump at 39-9.5 and fourth in the 200 in 25.93 seconds.

Buck finished first in the pole vault at 13-0 and Wager secured first in the high jump at 6-0. Chase Lhotka finished second in the 3200 in 11:44.54.

Other finishers include Logan Stefl, who took fourth in the 400 in 59.79 seconds; Brandon Zoll, fifth in the 55 hurdles in 9.8 seconds; and Ethan Chelberg, sixth in the 1600 in 5:23.50.

Gage Timm and Crede Timm both also picked up points for the Hawks with eighth-place finishes in the pole vault and triple jump, respectively.

In girls action, Hannah Wendorff’s 9-foot pole vault, good for second place in the event, led the Shawano to a seventh-place overall finish at the Wausau West Warrior Invite Thursday.

The Hawks finished in the middle of the 14-team invite, with host Wausau West placing first. Stevens Point, Wausau East, Wittenberg-Birnamwood and Edgar rounded out the top-five.

Tori DePerry and Lydia Beyer each placed third in their respective events. DePerry had a high jump of 4-10 and Beyer ran the 1600-meter in 6:00.33, and the 3200 in 13:35.11 to finish third.

Christa Cummings secured the other top-five finish for the Hawks with fourth place in the 200 in 31.48 seconds.

Wendorff also finished seventh in the 55 dash (8.12).

Eighth place finishes for Shawano include Rachel Reed, who had a 4-04 high jump, and Carrie Young, who ran the 400 in 1:13.01.

Wittenberg-Birnamwood’s Maddy Pietz and Paige Norrbom led the Chargers with first-place finishes in the 55 dash and high jump, respectively.

Pietz ran the 55 in 7.35 seconds to win the event, and also finished second in the long jump at 17.06.

Norrbom secured the high jump title after a 4-10 leap. She also finished second in the 200 hurdles with a time of 32.67.

Other second-place finishes for the Chargers include Emma Herb in the shot put with a throw of 32-11; Emily Norrbom in the triple jump at 33-08; and Chloe King in the 200 in 30.27.

Alyssa Meverden picked up points in both the 800 and 1600, placing seventh and eighth, respectively.

In relay action, the 4x400 relay team of Pietz, Paige Norrbom, Emily Norrbom and Kylie Linke earned first place with a time of 4:30.

The four-lap relay also placed first with a time of 1:23.11, consisting of King, Linke, Pietz and Emily Norrbom.
