Celebration of Giving seeks volunteers

5 nominees will receive $1,000 for local nonprofits

Shawano’s Celebration of Giving, presented by the Shawano Area Community Foundation and The Shawano Leader, is seeking people who exhibit the spirit of volunteerism in Shawano County.

Five area individuals or groups who have demonstrated outstanding volunteer service to the community will be selected by representatives of the award sponsors. Each award recipient will receive $1,000 to donate to an area nonprofit of his or her choice.

Nominations are being sought in the following categories:

• Health Care Volunteer Award: Recognizes an individual for his or her commitment to improving health and well-being of others through volunteerism. Sponsor: ThedaCare Physicians

• Youth Volunteer Award: Recognizes an area high school student who has embraced and demonstrated the spirit of volunteering and giving back to the community. Sponsors: Shawano Optimist Club and Shawano Rotary

• Bill Mielke Volunteer Educator Award: Recognizes an individual or group for their dedication and passion for education and whose impact can be documented in a measurable way. Sponsor: Mielke Family Foundation

• Wittenberg Community Service Award: Recognizes a group or individual in the Wittenberg area that exhibits dedication and enthusiasm through diversified volunteer work. The work performed has positive impact by improving the quality of life and meeting the needs of the community. Sponsor: Nueske’s Applewood Smoked Meats

• Shawano Community Service Award: Recognizes an individual from Shawano who exhibits dedication and enthusiasm through diversified volunteer work. The work performed has a positive impact by improving the quality of life and meeting the needs of the community. Sponsor: An anonymous fund holder within SACF

Nominations should be received no later than May 1. Nominees must reside in Shawano County. Winners will be selected and notified in early May. Award winners will be featured in the Leader and presented with a plaque and a check for the nonprofit of their choice by the sponsoring organization.
