Hwy. 156 project will cause road closures

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation Northeast Region office announced this week upcoming traffic impacts associated with construction of the state highways 29 and 156 interchange project taking place in Brown and Shawano counties.

Highway 156 in the project work zone will be closed and detoured from June 14 through early August. This closure is necessary to construct a box culvert, replace several cross culverts, mill and overlay the asphalt, construct the new St. Augustine Road and Highway 156 intersection, place new shoulder gravel, and install new permanent signing and marking.

Highway 156 from state Highway 55 to County Road Y will close to all through traffic June 14. No access will be allowed across the box culvert during construction. The box culvert is located about 1 mile east of state Highway 55.

Flaggers or short-term lane closures will be used to install the other cross culverts. Local and emergency access will be maintained to all residents and businesses. Motorists will be directed to use Highway 55 to Highway 29.

The Highway 156 work is a continuation of the highways 29 and 156 intersection project that began last fall. The $5.2 million project will improve the intersection and five miles of Highway 156 to address safety and pavement needs. All construction is expected to finish by September.
