The Shawano Legion baseball team settled for a split with Waupaca on Thursday night at Memorial Park.

In game one, the Patriots used a four-run fifth inning to rally from an early 2-0 deficit. Waupaca tied the game in the top of the seventh before Shawano’s Alex Hoffman came through with a clutch single, scoring Mason Dingeldein for the walk-off victory.

In the Patriots four-run frame, Brad Bartz delivered a two-run single while Jacob Lacy and Hoffman drew bases-loaded walks. Bartz finished with three of the Patriots seven hits while five different players scored. Casey Baumann pitched all seven innings, allowing just one earned run, to pick up the win.

Waupaca returned the favor in the second game, scoring three runs in the fifth inning to overcome a 2-1 deficit. Shawano grabbed the lead in the opening inning when Brett Ainsworth scored on a passed ball. After Waupaca tied it in the second, the Patriots retook the lead in the third on a Nick Grignon double that scored courtesy runner Karson Rades.

Bartz and Grignon each had two hits for Shawano in the second game. Isaac Buntrock took the loss after allowing four unearned runs over five innings. Steve Hoffman worked the final inning.
