E. John Nelson

Edward John Nelson passed away quietly on Saturday afternoon, July 7, 2018, at the age of 103. His beloved wife, Ruby, and other family members were by his side.

E. John, as he was known by most of his life, was born on June 8, 1915, on a small farm in the Town of Maple Valley. He married the love of his life on June 20, 1943, and they recently celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary. Together they raised a family of eight children. Jon (Shirley), David (Nancy), Tim and Joel, all of Watertown, and Paul (Susie) of Osseo. Four children preceded him in death, Steven, Mark (Jan), Gail and Beth, who died in infancy. He is further survived by 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and other relatives and friends.

E. John owned and operated the Mobil Oil gas station for over 25 years in Suring, their hometown. In 1969, the family moved to Watertown where he worked in the maintenance department at Bethesda Lutheran Home until his retirement.

A faithful husband and loving father, his mild manner, ready wit and constant smile were an example for all around him. He was always an active member in his church and local service organizations, such as the volunteer fire department, the ARC and CCLS Inc.

E. John will be dearly missed, but we eagerly await our joyous reunion with him in heaven.
