Peter M. Miller

Peter M. Miller, 74, of Bowler, passed away on Monday, Feb. 4, 2019, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.

Pete was born in Shawano on April 23, 1944, a son of the late LaRoy “Roy” and LouAnna (Tousey) Miller. He grew up in Bowler on the Stockbridge-Munsee Reservation where he shared the love of harness racing with his dad. He spend many hours training for weekend races at local county fairs. From 1965 until 1967, Pete served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Vietnam. Upon returning to civilian life, he worked as a welder at A.O. Smith in Milwaukee until 1982. He then moved to Shawano and pursued his interest in antiques as an antique wholesaler, which he continued to do the rest of his life.

Survivors include his daughter, Avari Miller; his brother, Allen “Tin” and his wife, Kay; his sisters, Carol “Carlo” Goss and Marvel “Babe” Miller; brothers-in-law, Keith Welch and Darryl Schoenfeldt; his former wife, Melanie Miller; and many loved nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Pete was preceded in death by his brothers, Paul (his twin), Dewey, Roger, LaRoy “Mun” and Leon “Chug”; his sisters, Imogene “Gal” Beilke, Noreen Welch, Uwanda Schoenfeldt, Anna Lou Helle and Charlene “Cheene” Reiter; sisters-in-law, Judy, Joyce, Barb and Sharon; and brothers-in-law, Gary Goss, Bernard “Toby” Beilke, Lester Helle and Wayne Reiter.

A celebration of Peter’s life will be held on Sunday, Feb. 10, 2019, at 3 p.m. at Mickelson Funeral Service in Shawano. In keeping with Pete’s wishes, the gathering will be simple. Visitation will take place from 1-3 p.m., ending with the sharing of a few words and memories. Full military honors will be conducted by the Veterans of the Mohican Nation following the service. In lieu of flowers and plants, contributions to the Arvid E. Miller Memorial Library are encouraged. Burial will take place in the Stockbridge-Munsee Burial Grounds, by the Church of the Wilderness, at a later date.
