Boys tennis: Hawks fall to Lumberjacks

The Shawano Community High School boys tennis team opened its spring season Tuesday, falling to Wausau East 6-1 in nonconference action on the courts outside Shawano Community Middle School.

Chris Black and Cesar Ramirez teamed up at No. 1 doubles and earned Shawano’s lone victory on the night. Black and Ramirez earned a 6-1, 6-4 win over Wausau East’s Max Novak and David Bautsch.

The Hawks No. 3 doubles team of Rory Johnson and J.J. Pyatskowit won a set but ended up losing in three (4-6, 6-4, 6-3).

Shawano’s No. 2 doubles team of Wyatt Theis and Rowyn Rodenbeck also battled, but came up short (7-6 (5), 6-0).

In singles action, Shawano’s Bryce Carlson and Leo Liu also proved to be tough opponents. Carlson lost 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles, while Liu dropped a 6-3, 6-2 match at No. 4 singles.

Anton Piantek and Camden Kroll were each defeated 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively.
