Intoxicating contest

It's obvious the Shawano County brewing community has been improving its craft, declared Michael Conard, food and nutrition judge at the Shawano County Fair's annual Beer and Wine Judging contest.

"My favorite part of judging home brew competitions like this is being able to give feedback to the contestants," Conard said. "Any kind of judging is about educating the producer to make their product better."

This year's competition, hosted Thursday in the Crawford Center in Shawano, had 14 beer and 52 wine entries.
