Area residents back mourning dove season

With more than 300 people attending the Department of Natural Resources Spring Fish and Wildlife Rules Hearing Monday in Shawano County, nearly two-thirds of the people voted in favor of establishing a hunting season for the mourning dove. The meeting was held at Shawano Community Middle School.

Chmura posts bail after arrest on assault allegation

HARTLAND, Wis. (AP) Green Bay Packers tight end Mark Chmura posted bond after being arrested on allegations he sexually assaulted his 17-year-old babysitter at a high school post-prom party.

Chmura and a friend, Robert Gessert, were both arrested early Monday.

The 17-year-old told authorities he had sex with her on a bathroom floor at the party early Sunday.

An 18-year-old woman accused Gessert of sexual misconduct in a hot tub at the same party.

Driver cited for OWI in outage accident

A number of Shawano Municipal Utility electrical customers were without power for nearly two hours Sunday morning after a car struck a power pole on Waukechon St. shortly after 2 a.m.

Shawano baseball opens Bay season with win

NEW LONDON The Shawano baseball team opened its Bay Conference schedule with a 6-5 win over New London Monday afternoon. The hawks withstood a late-game charge by New London to hold on for the win.

Josh Buettner picked up his third win of the season on the mound for the Hawks going 4 2/3 innings striking out five batters for the win. Matt Kamke came on in relief striking out three the remainder of the game to earn the save.

Bears have big day at plate in win

BONDUEL The Bonduel baseball team passed a key test Monday afternoon beating Wittenberg-Birnamwood 18-6 in CWL Conference action. The win keeps the Bears unbeaten on the year.

Derek Drage picked up his third win in as many starts on the mound going the distance striking out 13 batters, while giving up just four hits.
