Baseball roundup: Reinke pitches no-hitter for Bonduel

BONDUEL A single walk in the second inning kept Bonduel's J. C. Reinke from a perfect game, but not from a no-hitter as the Bears shut down Shiocton 5-0 in CWL Conference action Friday afternoon.

Reinke had 16 strikeouts in his no-hitter as the Bears remained unbeaten on the year. In a game that saw only four hits between the two teams, Reinke also got the job done with the bat getting two hits and a pair of RBI in the win.

Vietnam Conflict left lasting, painful memories for Gresham man

Today's 25th anniversary of the end of the Vietnam War will bring back memories some people might prefer to forget.

But a Vietnam War veteran from Gresham says what he went through while serving for his country in South Vietnam is seared forever in his memory

Marshal Giese, who now owns his own plumbing business and was elected this month as a supervisor on the Shawano County Board, served from March 1968 to March 1969 in the 108th Army Artillery Division in Dong Ha, about six miles from the demilitarized zone.

Dollars for Scholars banquet raises over $20,000

for the Leader

More than $20,000 was raised for the students of the Shawano community at the 8th annual Dollars for Scholars Gala Friday night.

The proceeds included a $5,000 donation from M&I Bank of Shawano. President Bill Braun announced the contribution on behalf of the bank to the program, which provides scholarships for Shawano students.

The balance of the funds was raised through a silent auction, raffle and dinner tickets, along with at least three new members or upgrades to the 54166 club, for which people pledge $541.66.

Navarino Nature Centre dedicates new building

NAVARINO Just as a seedling grows into a tree over time, so did the dream of many people to have a new building for the Navarino Nature Center.

That dream came true Saturday as about 90 people attended the dedication ceremony for the new 3,150 square foot building in the Navarino Wildlife Area.

"The dedication of this new building is part of our dream," building committee chairman Rick Herzfeldt said. "And we've come a long way."
