March Madness prep style gets underway tonight with eight of the nine area boys basketball teams taking to the court in WIAA regional action. The game of the night belongs to Shawano and Clintonville, as the former Bay Conference rivals will meet in Shawano in opening-round action of the Division 2 tournament.

Bantams fall to Tomah twice, beat Sparta

TOMAH The Shawano Bantam hockey team competed in Tomah this past weekend finishing with a 1-2 record on the weekend. The Bantams beat Sparta and lost to host Tomah twice in their three games.

Shawano opened competition with a 5-1 loss to Tomah on Saturday. The Indian jumped out early taking a 2-0 lead after the first period. In the second period Tomah scored first building a 3-0 lead before Shawano could get on the board.

Theww Clintonville gymnsts qualify for WIAA State Meet

VALDERS Three Clintonville gymnasts moved on to the WIAA State Meet this past weekend with their performances in the sectional meet held at Valders. Jessica Korth, Molly Nerby and Misty Mueller will be competing in the state meet at Wisconsin Rapids on March 3.

Arts council opens Mielke fund drive

The Shawano County Arts Council today launched a new major membership and contribution drive to raise funds to support the Mielke Arts Center expansion project.

Plans originally for the expansion of the Mielke Theater had called for a project price tag of about $790,000, but those plans were scaled back to about $400,000 so they could be paid for with funds on hand.
