Local piano teacher Gloria Grys watches as eight-year-old Jason Alexander practices a piece for the Wisconsin Music Teachers Association audition on Saturday. Alexander and 119 other students from Shawano, Bonduel, Suring and Green Bay will compete at either the district or state level at Shawano Community High School. Students who advance in the state level will compete at the Badger Competition in May.

Fog causes school delays, difficulties for drivers

Unseasonably warm temperatures coupled with area snow cover has caused extremely foggy conditions in the area over the last several days. Those conditions have caused delays in start times for many area schools and difficult driving conditions.

The Shawano-Gresham and the Bowler School Districts started classes one hour late today to allow driving conditions to improve. Other area school districts that started two hours late this morning included: Bonduel, Pulaski, Menominee Indian, Clintonville, Oconto Falls, Gillett and Stockbridge-Munsee Head Start.

Shawano only area team still standing

SHAWANO For the second time this season the Shawano girls basketball team made easy work of Freedom, but the Hawks' 60-37 win Thursday night extended their season at least one more game. With the win the Hawks are the only remaining area girls team still alive and will travel to play Oconto Falls on Saturday in a WIAA regional final.

DeLorme falls in second round

MADISON Shawano's winningest wrestler, Rocky DeLorme, fell short of his state championship goal Thursday evening losing in the quarterfinals of the WIAA Division 1 125 pound individual tournament.

DeLorme opened the day with a thrilling 4-3 win over Baraboo's Traenor Spencer, but lost a 7-4 decision to Milwaukee Pulaski Arts' O'Bryan Mungon in the quarterfinals. The loss knocked DeLorme into the consolation bracket where fifth place is as high as he can shoot for.

County tables annex project again

This is the main entrance to the Shawano County Jail. The street area in the foreground is the location of the proposed annex, which would be linked to the jail and sheriff's department. The county board on Wednesday tabled the project for the second time in two months.
