Gordis M. Beilfuss

Gordis Mae “Gordie” Beilfuss, 87, of Lakewood, formerly from Seymour, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly Saturday, July 16, 2016, at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay, with her family by her side. She was born on May 24, 1929, daughter of the late Harold and Marie (Kroening) Raaths.

On June 3, 1950, Gordie was united in marriage to Wallace Beilfuss, and they had 66 wonderful years of marriage together. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Townsend, an active member of AARP and a volunteer in many capacities. She loved to crochet, flowers, gardening, berry picking and work. She also enjoyed exercising at Tri-Fitness in Lakewood with Wally, bowling, socializing and traveling with Wally on family vacations, and cooking. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Most of all she enjoyed her family and their dogs. She was known to the grandchildren as GG.

Leroy A. Slewinski

Leroy “Lee” Anthony Slewinski, 75, of Cecil, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 14, 2016. Leroy was born in Milwaukee on Nov. 2, 1940, the son of the late Julius and Florence (Nowak) Slewinski. On May 12, 1962, he was united in marriage to Constance M. Moesch in Muskego. The couple lived in Milwaukee, and Leroy worked at W.J. Lazynski before moving to Shawano in 1976. After moving to Shawano, he worked at Northland Foods and later owned and operated Lee’z Restaurant and Lee’z Gas Station, as well as Country Inn and Suites until his retirement. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed snowmobiling, fishing and boating, as well as feeding and watching wildlife. In his free time, he enjoyed watching NASCAR and football and going to his cabin.

Violet A. Leitzke

Violet A. Leitzke, 93, of Green Bay, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 14, 2016, after recuperating near family in Minneapolis, Minnesota, following a brief illness. She was born to the late William and Lydia (Lemberg) Neitzel on Sept. 21, 1922, in the Township of Hartland in Shawano County. She grew up on a farm outside of Bonduel and graduated from Shawano High School. Violet married Victor Leitzke on June 22, 1950. The couple farmed in Boyd until Victor’s death in January 1967. She relocated to Green Bay, where she attended trade school and was employed for many years doing city directories throughout the Upper Midwest. Violet retired in 1988 and enjoyed time with family and friends, Silver Sneakers, Cup of Joy and her sports. Violet was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers, Wisconsin Badgers, UWGB Phoenix and Milwaukee Brewers and proud to be a long-time Packer ticket holder.

Arthur R. Bohn

Arthur R. Bohn, 58, of Shawano, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 7, 2016, at his home.

Art was born on Oct. 10, 1957, in Keshena. He attended school in California. Following school he was employed as a factory worker at Beloit Corp., Stoughton Trailer and Zimm’s Cheese Factory. His hobbies were making Native American art, including beadwork and dream catchers. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and being in the woods. He spent many hours cutting wood. He had a big heart and was always willing to help others. He was passionate about his Native American heritage.

Survivors include his daughters, Sarah Bohn, of Kiel, and Amber Bohn, of Brodhead; his brother, Henry Salazar; his sister, Trudell Shawanokasik, of Albuquerque, New Mexico; his adoptive mother, Diane Bohn, of Santa Clara, California; his adoptive brothers, James Bohn, of Baldwin, and Bruce, Mike and Bobby Bohn, all of California; and his adoptive sister, Jackie, of California; several nieces and nephews.

Linda Engel

Linda Irene Engel (Hauk), 66, originally of Shawano, was unexpectedly called home to heaven on July 11, 2016, in Naperville, Illinois, in connection with an automobile accident.

Linda was born in Shawano, daughter of late Arnold and Geraldine (Kort) Hauk on March 16, 1950. She attended Sacred Heart Elementary School, Shawano Junior High and went to high school at Shawano Senior High, graduating in 1968.

Linda was married to high school sweetheart Douglas Engel, also of Shawano, on Sept. 5, 1970, having known each other since early childhood. Following their marriage they lived in Oshkosh, Milwaukee and, for the last 27 years, Naperville.

James “Jay” H. Olk, 91, of Clintonville, passed away early Friday morning, July 8, 2016, at ThedaCare Regional Medical Center-Appleton.

John R. Breitenfeldt

John Raymond Breitenfeldt, 78, of Tilleda, passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at his home surrounded by his loving wife and family.

John was born on July 28, 1937, in the town of Grant, the son of the late Fred and Anna (Sickinger) Breitenfeldt. After high school, he enlisted in the Army National Guard.

On July 27, 1968, John was united in marriage to Sharon at Zion Lutheran Church in Caroline. In his early years, he enjoyed playing baseball and softball and eventually coached the 4-H Tilleda Timberwolves. In his later years he liked gardening, playing cards, hunting, going to the casino and going to auctions. He was a member of Peace Lutheran Church in Tilleda and Caroline American Legion Post 456, where he participated in military funeral honors as part of the rifle detail.

Joyce M. Reminger

Joyce Marie Reminger, 91, of Leopolis, passed away at home on Saturday, July 9, 2016. Born on Feb. 19, 1925, in Shawano, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Margaret (Hartel) Schmidt Sr.

After graduating from Gresham High School, Joyce worked at Gresham State Bank until she was united in marriage to John J. Reminger in Gresham on Oct. 23, 1948. The couple owned and operated a dairy farm while raising six children. Joyce enjoyed tending to a big vegetable garden and many flower gardens. She also liked listening to Brewers games on the radio and watching the Packers games. The most important thing to her was always her family, and she cherished the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Joyce was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Leopolis, where she was active in the St. Mary’s CCW.

Betty M. and Ruben M. Giese

Betty M. Giese, 88, and Ruben M. Giese, 90, of Gresham, passed away Thursday, July 7, 2016, in Shawano within hours of each other. They were married on May 18, 1946, and just celebrated their 70th anniversary. They took care of each other and loved each other until the end, just like in the movie “The Notebook.”

Both Betty and Ruben lived in the Gresham area all of their lives. They were members of Zion Lutheran Church in Gresham and very active in the Shawano County Republican Party.
