Shawano places sixth at Denmark golf meet

The Shawano girls golf team placed sixth at the Bay Conference meet Tuesday in Denmark.

The Hawks had a team score of 225.

Marinette won the meet with a team score of 181, while Denmark's Shannon Carney, at 41 strokes, had the best individual score.

Shawano's Ariana Klemens had a team-best score of 50, tied for ninth-best individual score of the meet with Marinette's Kayla Parthie.

Shawano's Allison VanGrinsven shot a 53, Courtney Baumann had a 60, Megan Beck scored a 62 and Tristin Cerveny carded a 67.

Hawks set for test

After losing his season opener last week against Luxemburg-Casco 48-6, Shawano football coach Bill Hass wants his players to trust their assignments.

"Right now we're young enough and inexperienced enough where we don't necessarily trust what we're supposed to do sometimes," Hass said. "That will hurt you offensively, defensively and on special teams."

The coach was even more blunt about what his team needs to do now.

"We need to grow up," Hass said.

The Hawks (0-1) will need to grow up in hurry with Bay Conference foe Hortonville (1-0) coming to town Friday.

Luxemburg-Casco beats Shawano in overtime

The Shawano soccer team lost in overtime, 3-2, Tuesday at Bay Conference rival Luxemburg-Casco.

The Hawks held a 1-0 lead at the half before Luxemburg-Casco knocked in two goals. Shawano answered with a goal to take the game into overtime tied at two a piece.

Luxemburg-Casco scored a goal early in overtime to win the game.

Shawano's Sawyer Buck and Jacob Schnell accounted for the goals. Schnell and Garret Schlies earned assists.

Goalie Mike Meisner had seven saves.

The loss drops Shawano to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the Bay Conference.
