Hawks keep home streak alive

SHAWANO The Shawano girls basketball team remained unbeaten at home this season with a 46-34 win over New London Tuesday night in Bay Conference action. The Hawks opened the game with an 11-5 run and never looked back taking the 12-point win.

Shawano held a six-point lead heading into the second period and looked to cruising, but New London was staying close in the second period. After a hard-fought second quarter the Hawks still clung to a five-point lead at the half.

In the third period the two teams played close, but the Hawks were not without their chances. A 5-for-10 performance from the free throw line kept New London in the game as Shawano could only add one point to their lead heading into the final period of play.

In the fourth quarter the Hawks put up their biggest quarter of offense behind the play of the game's leading scorer, Amanda Redmann, who scored eight of her 15 points in the period. Darcie O'Kimosh and Brianna Feivor each added four points in the period to help the Hawks pull away from New London in the final minutes. O'Kimosh and Feivor each finished the game with 10 points.

The Hawks (8-4, 6-4) will look to do on the road what they have done at home when they travel to play West DePere on Jan. 29. The Hawks, tied for third in the Bay conference with DePere, beat West DePere in their other meeting earlier this season.
