English is an essential subject for all learners. English exams can differ depending on the locus of a student’s course, whether it is a writing course or literature. Students tend to lose marks and always look for more ways to get ahead in English.

Here are some ways to help students excel in English:

  • Build your Vocabulary: Vocabulary building helps in scoring good grades in English exams. Essays, articles, story writing, and the literature part of the exam. Students can do so by making flashcards or by writing new words down with their meanings. Whenever you catch or learn a fresh word or phrase, scribble it down with the circumstance it is being used in.
  • Sample Papers: Solving sample papers and previous year questions sheets could prove very beneficial for English Exams. Going through mock papers like CBSE Sample Paper 1 for Class 8 English can also help you in your quest for excellent results. They have been created by specialists who are proficient in the English language. The sample papers also help the student in strengthing their time-management skills.
  • Comprehensive part: Students should also go through the comprehensive part of question papers and practice them on a regular basis. Reading more and more comprehensive passages and poems can make a student’s reading skills very sharp. This skill would help them in quickly going through what the comprehension is about and what the questions are asking for.
  • Writing Section: The writing section of the exam consists of reports, notices, and letters. Students must practice this prior-hand in order to go through this section without wasting any time.
  • Literature: Students should have a deep, intellectual knowledge of chapters and poems for excelling in this section.
  • Reviewing Literature: Going through short summaries of chapters can be a fruitful exercise as it helps to revise the whole story. For more prolonged chapters, students should re-read any segments that appear as necessary or segments that the teachers have highlighted.
  • NCERT books: Students should never leave NCERT books behind and go through them before resorting to study guides. The questions given in NCERT books at the end of the chapters are commonly occurring problems and tend to carry a lot of weightage in terms of marks.
  • Grammar: Grammar laws are so significant as they characterize a lot of communication circumstances and give students knowledge that they can apply to any context. Students should create their own example sentences as it helps them in understanding the rules more efficiently. Studying grammar is a long-term aim and the more rules a student drills, the better they get. The method is spending as much time as a student can, practicing. Some of the most important topics of grammar for 8th class are:
  1. Determiners
  2. Adverbs
  3. Tenses
  4. Clauses
  5. Linking Words
  6. Adjectives
  7. Modal Auxiliaries
  8. Reported Speech
  9. Order of Words and Clauses
  10. Direct and Indirect Speech
  11. Active and Passive Voice
  12. Noun
  13. Pronoun
  14. Verb
  15. Adverb
  16. Prepositions
  17. Conjunction
  • Character study: Catalog characters’ names and links to each other on the exam as memorizing them can be helpful in exams. Using the wrong name for the character could make a student lose marks as it weakens the whole text.
  • Class notes: Taking notes is also one of the most effective techniques of effective learning. Students must go through the notes provided by their teachers to make sure they do not leave anything untouched. Data provided by teachers is very factual and abbreviated in nature. Students should also use study guides prescribed by the teachers as they are most suitable for last-minute coverage.
  • Exam Format: Students should follow the format of the exam given out by the school. Knowing if the exam is going to be filled with multiple-choice questions or descriptive ones can also help.
  • Study Groups: Students can also resort to study groups before the exams. Reading in a study group makes the student more attentive towards the details they need to cover when they see other students learning them. It also instills a sense of competition among the students. Students can also advise their friends to speak in English before the exam comes up. It also helps the student in scrutinizing literature when the student comes across different opinions of other students about the same chapter.
  • Do not cram: Cramming is a short-lived solution to studying. Cramming can also make different characters or storied get mixed up in a student’s brain.
  • Podcasts: Subscribing to podcasts and listening to them can help students to strengthen their English skills. They can search for podcasts related to the topics of their syllabus and go through them for a more interactive and meticulous learning process.
  • Read Aloud: Reading aloud can help a student in better understanding the chapter. It makes the learner mindful of the words they speak and what they mean.
  • Make a schedule: Formulation of a study plan snaps a tremendous volume of complex study material into modest forms. When they see themselves succeeding in their pursuit they get a solid morale boost.
  • Get sleep: Most students tend to stay up late at night before the exam but they should have at least 8 hours of sleep to have a more conscious mind during the examination. It keeps them sharp and articulate.
  • Focus on weakness: Students shouldn’t contribute much time to areas where they are already strong. They should put more of their time into progressing their deficiencies. After solving sample papers, students get a clear idea of what they lack so they should make notes on what went wrong. This note-making will help them notice where they perform the worst.

Class 8 plays an indispensable role in developing a student’s future because the syllabus of future classes is correlated to the synopsis of Class 8. Students’ achievements in several prestigious competitive exams also depend on how strong a student’s English foundation is.
