Why You Should Track Your Instagram Metrics

Business & Entrepreneur

Instagram metrics; what are they? Why should you be tracking them? As a brand or influencer using Instagram, your metrics can provide you with valuable information on how your page performs on a weekly, monthly, or yearly basis, as well as how appealing your content is to your followers.

With this information on hand, you can better tailor your content to meet your followers’ wants, and improve your engagement rates and grow your following. If you’ve never looked at your Instagram metrics, it’s time to open up that interface and take a peek. Here’s why you should track your Instagram metrics.

Are You Engaging?

It’s not enough to post content on social media. Nowadays, everyone is posting content of some kind on every social media platform, so there’s a flood of information, pictures, videos, etc. It can be a challenge to truly stick out from the crowd in such an environment, but if you don’t, your content will fall to the bottom of the barrel and won’t get noticed.

Let’s start with how engaging your content is. Are your followers simply skipping over your content in the feed, or dropping a like just for the sake of supporting your content?

This might seem fine, but in reality, if your content isn’t engaging, eventually followers will grow bored with it and could potentially unfollow your page.

Keeping followers engaged starts with posting high-quality content. Many Instagrammers and social media users, in general, think that flooding the feed with content is the best approach; after all, it keeps your page in the minds of your followers, right?

Truthfully, this is a good way to cause your followers to disengage from the content. Remember quality over quantity.

Let’s say you’re posting your latest CBD product, and you’ve made eight different posts about it in the last three days. That’s far too many posts, and you likely didn’t spend much time on them if you’re posting that many. Take the time to create and post only the highest quality content to ensure people are staying engaged.

Your Follower Growth Rate is Crucial Information

Why should you know how many followers you’ve gained or lost over the course of the last year, or the last several months? It’s simple. If you’re losing followers, you’re either slipping when it comes to quality, or you’re not engaging enough.

If you’re gaining followers, you’re doing something right, and you need to narrow down what that is and focus on it.

Keeping track of this metric will also help you see where followers are coming from. Which posts generate the most interest? Followers are the ones engaging with your content, sharing it with other people, and clicking on those shoppable posts to generate revenue. Don’t ignore them!

It doesn’t hurt to ask your followers how they heard about your page, either. This will give you a better idea of where your followers are coming from, and whether or not your efforts on other sites or social media platforms are driving traffic to your page.

Comments and Interactions

Are you interacting with your followers, or are the comment sections of your posts full of unanswered questions and comments? Interacting with followers helps bring a more human feeling to the relationship you share with them.

If they never get any response from your page, it can feel like a cold and unfulfilling connection. People want to connect with their favorite brands more than ever.

You should be tracking your comments as well. Are you getting fewer or greater comments on your posts than last month? Last year? What’s changed since then? Did you buy Instagram followers only to never say anything to them? Are customers asking questions about your CBD oil, your clothing line, or your next product launch?

Don’t leave them in the dark. Interact, answer questions, and adopt a customer service mentality across all of your social media pages.

Awareness is Key

What’s the best way to grow a business? With information. The more information and awareness you have on how your business runs, the better. It’s the same with your Instagram page. If you want to attract new followers, keep your current followers engaged, and increase your social credibility, you must know what’s going on behind the scenes.

An Instagram business account will track each of these metrics for you, so you can look at them on a daily, monthly, or yearly basis for a better idea of your page’s performance. Remember that the more you interact with followers, the more engaged they’ll be with your content, so don’t forget to answer those questions!

Keep your content consistent and of the highest quality, and remember to use the right hashtags to ensure it’s reaching the correct audience. Don’t use generic hashtags that will bury your content under thousands of similar posts; use hashtags that are niche-specific and short. Happy posting!
