- The facilities they offer:
Most housing options in Australia come with at least basic amenities- 24/7 access to drinking water, electricity, internet, and a safe and sound security system in place. However, Australian PGs and hostels have leveled up, and now they also offer a gymnasium, a library, a shared indoor swimming pool, a pool table, etc. Thus, when you go looking for a place, it is essential that you also look out for all these perks, and enquire about everything the site can offer to you.
- Who will you be living with:
This should be perhaps the most important thing on your criterion. If you get to speak to your roommates in case of a shared dormitory, please do! Though it is just one or two minutes, you can get the first impression of a person, and as they say, the first impression is the last. Always trust your gut feelings!
If you do not like somebody’s energy or vibe, we would say keep away from them. Furthermore, you should utilize your first meeting with them to ask about their hobbies, profession, smoking and drinking habits, etc. to understand if their lifestyle matches yours. In case you live with someone whose lifestyle is a contradiction to yours, it would not be a happy stay.
- Talk to your landlord:
Before you sign the papers, you must know the terms and conditions of the person who owns this rental. You should meet them personally and ask them questions that you may have about the accommodation. This will help you understand the landlord’s disposition, but it would also give you a fair idea of how approachable would the landlord be while tackling potential issues at a new place.
- Dig up on the online reputation of the place:
If it is a famous hostel or PG, you are in luck. You would easily find their mention and social media pages active online. f Reading their profile and online reviews could help you understand the place’s conduct, approach, and downsides. - How far is it from your college:
If your accommodation is going to be too now from college, then prepare to overspend your budget. You have to expand your spending capacity because you would be required to take a bus or train to college. - What is the neighborhood like?:
You might prefer a cabin in the forest or a luxurious apartment in the party street, but they aren’t what you should go for! We cannot go for an extreme, especially when we are looking to study in our spare time! It would help if you had a place that has a decent neighborhood, and allows you enough silence to research while also not leaving you completely isolated.
