How To Beat Jet Lag With Smart Travel Planning

Lifestyle

22 Jan

Jet lag and switching time zones can make the beginning days of a trip and the aftermath when returning home uncomfortable and exhausting. For frequent travelers, on typical commercial flights or a G5 private jet, it can make productivity and the daily routine much more difficult. Jet lag most often occurs when flyers go to destinations that are several hours ahead or behind their home time zone. Switching to a different schedule confuses the body and can leave someone feeling lethargic and disoriented. Beat jet lag with these smart travel planning tips.

Follow the Destination’s Time Zone

An effective way to help with jet lag starts weeks before a trip. For travelers who plan to visit a region that is several time zones away, it’s smart to slowly adjust their schedule to the destination time zone if possible. Start by shifting meal times and sleep times one hour at a time, and then, over the next few days, gradually keep shifting until the schedule matches the destination’s time zone right before departure on a Los Angeles jet charter.

Stay Hydrated When Flying

It’s also recommended to stay hydrated during a flight to help with jet lag. Flying at a high altitude may suck the moisture out of the air and heighten the potential for mild dehydration, which can increase the chances of debilitating jet lag. During the flight, passengers should aim to drink plenty of water. They can also use spray bottles of water to lightly mist their faces and skin during the flight to be more comfortable.

Sleep During the Flight

Another big part of keeping jet lag at a minimum is getting enough sleep during the flight. It’s a good idea to enjoy some sleep during a long-haul flight to a new time zone so that upon arrival, flyers can get right into the day’s activities. Sleeping aboard a crowded commercial plane may be a challenge, so flyers should consider booking discounted empty leg flights on a private jet.

Eat and Avoid Alcohol

Timing meals properly during the flight and after may also help improve the body’s response to changing time zones. Aim to eat during the flight, and strive for protein-packed, nutritious meals instead of junk food to help the body make a better adjustment. Additionally, be sure to avoid alcohol during the flight, as drinking may make jet lag worse.

Start the Trip Off Active

Once passengers get off of the flight, they can start their trip off on a positive note by jumping right into the destination’s time zone and schedule. Travelers should start their trip with some sort of active pursuit, such as walking around the new city or doing a moderately-active organized tour. It’s best to avoid going right to bed so the body can quickly get used to the routine.

Have a Better Travel Experience

Taking jet lag out of a long-haul trip to an exotic, faraway destination makes for a much more enjoyable trip. Instead of wasting two or three days with exhausting jet lag, travelers can instantly get into the excursions and experiences they want to do. Plan a more effective trip by trying these tips to reduce jet lag.
