Online format, or the opportunity to play with friends in one side, or even resist each other is one of the chips of the game industry and a direction that loves a large number of gamers.

It is one thing to perform Crown of Sorrow Raid Boost in Destiny 2 alone, or with unfamiliar players, or with friends – shares loot, discuss tactics and communicate on the battlefield.

Cooperative

Games that support co-op are often single-player projects with the possibility of co-op.

To a greater extent, this format is popular due to the fact that you do not sacrifice the plot component and do not get a project with an infinite number of mechanics and events, but simply play interesting games more fun.

A good example of such a solution in a cooperative is Call of Duty – World War.

Activision released the continuation of the cult series of shooters about the second world war and the participation of all allies in iconic battles and events of WW2 in different theaters of operations and in a distinct period of time.

If you choose the co-op mode, then you can go through an identical company together with a friend, covering each other and gaining access to a system of points and achievements that are issued for killing enemies, completing tasks and other bright and impressive actions on the battlefield.

A company is waiting for you on the islands of the Pacific Ocean, in Stalingrad and Berlin.

MMO

Games in the MMO genre imply a specially created project for the game of a large number of players at the same time.

All events take place in a fictional world where players have to level up, complete quests and clear dungeons, fight each other and form guilds to play together.

The brightest MMOs are World of Warcraft, Destiny 2, Lineage 2.

You will create a character and decide for yourself which way you are more comfortable playing:

  • Complete quests.
  • Grind monsters.
  • Go on raids.
  • Look for enemies for PVP.
  • To fish.
  • Collect resources.
  • Do craft.
  • Trade materials and other items.

Which format should be chosen and what criteria should be used

You need to decide which format is closer to you, the genre you are interested in – because the types of games are limited and the amount of time you can allocate to the project.

Format

Under the format you should understand the genre – you need to decide on a convenient style of play – it can be a shooter, or fantasy.

The classic shooter is not only famous battlefields, but also fictional worlds and you need to discuss the type of project, and the comfortable genre for all participants.

The shooter is more popular because not only the understanding of the mechanics of the project and equipment, but also physical aiming and accuracy come into play.

This means that each player has the opportunity to influence the outcome of battles solely through personal skills and shooting skills.

Fantasy relies on overall development – no matter how skilled a mage or rogue you are – what equipment you have will play a more key role – even the inability to properly burn skills can be compensated by good equipment.

Team play plays an important role in both formats, so don’t forget about team play – the correct and fair distribution of loot and just comfortable gameplay.

Available time to play

The fact is that the main criterion for choosing the optimal format for the game is not only the personal preferences and consent of all group members, but also the total time per day and week that players are willing to spend on a cooperative and MMO project, depending on their employment and interest.

With cooperative projects, everything is much simpler and there is no time limit and a comfortable pace distribution – everything is decided individually within the entire group of players who are going to play together.

If everyone is comfortable playing 2 hours a day, or two hours a week, then the problem is settled and this is the strongest side of the cooperative mode – in the absence of dependence on the time spent.

Everything is more complicated with MMOs – regardless of whether you actively play or log in for a couple of hours on weekends – the server will live and develop, and if you are not ready to spend many hours on World of Warcraft and other projects, then you will either be very far behind from the bulk of the players, or experience the strongest discomfort from their weak capabilities.

If you are not ready to spend at least 3 hours a day on MMOs, then you should think about simpler and less time-dependent projects.

Gameplay variations

In an MMO, you will have more options and opportunities for playing together and helping each other than in a cooperative mode, where the main emphasis is only on passing the storyline.

In the storyline, to participate in the cooperative version, you need to cover each other and share equipment that is obtained directly from monsters and bosses – for example, it happens in Diablo 4, where together with allies you will be able to overcome all acts more easily and go to a nightmarish difficulty level, covering each other and contributing to monsters that have a lot of resistances.

In MMOs, there are much more such options, and it is better to sort out the roles from the very beginning, so that each member of the group does their own thing, not only in the process of leveling and farming raids, but also in matters of equipping the group.

This also applies to the distribution of professions, so that each member of the group can provide himself or other comrades-in-arms with weapons, armor, accessories, jewelry.

Due to the fact that the number of slots is often limited, such roles and specializations are chosen to provide everyone with weapons, equipment, jewelry to protect against magic, and auxiliary resources such as potions of healing and strengthening.

Conclusions on comparisons of cooperative and MMO projects

As you have already noticed – MMO is a full-fledged immersion not only in the main events and actions, but also a number of activities and mechanics that you need to follow and maintain in order for your squad to grow and develop, not to mention devoting enough time to the game, because the server is constantly evolving, regardless of your schedule and interest.

Cooperative projects are more of an opportunity to go through a powerful storyline in a single-player project not alone, and often this is a shooter mechanic where all events and activities are greatly simplified, because together it is much easier to destroy large enemy groups.

Co-op is great for people who don’t have regular MMO time, and to play with a friend, you just need to agree on the exact time, choose a way to play online and proceed to the passage.
